Science Initiatives
Better Science
WAMSI is an established and reputable organisation that has successfully implemented research programs to the value of more than $200 million over 17 years.
Focusing on all aspects of the blue economy to uncover knowledge required for government and industry to make strategic decisions, our model of comprehensive project design and coordinated research promotes better science. This is because our research is collaborative and driven by the needs of end users.
Our world-class research has made unique new discoveries, strengthened previous knowledge and developed new tools as well as applied existing national and global models to the Western Australian context.
We have enhanced knowledge of the WA marine estate and its biological resources and have improved our understanding of natural climate variability and predictions of longer-term climate change for the marine environment.
We have carried out research into dredging thresholds, sustainable fisheries, biotechnology and oceanography, Cockburn Sound’s marine environment, the iconic Ningaloo and Kimberley Marine Parks, identified knowledge gaps and developed future research priorities for Exmouth Gulf and Shark Bay.
Shaping the Future of Marine Science in WA
