About the SEAF project
What is SEAF?
The development of a Shared Environmental Analytics Facility (SEAF) is being led by WAMSI, together with The Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI). It is a collective effort between research, government and industry, with multiple partners involved in its development and delivery. SEAF is a mechanism for interpreting environmental data that has been developed in consultation with end users and stakeholders. It will create access to shared data and analytics for proponents, regulators and the community, and enable timely access to trusted environmental reporting and forecasting. SEAF creates a trusted data and information supply chain that can securely share the results of research across different sectors and better inform approval processes.
Positioning Western Australia as a leader in digital environmental assessments
SEAF takes data from a broad range of sources to support environmental impact assessments and generate information products, like maps, reports and forecasting tools, which can be used in research and decision making.
Two pilot programs have been established in Western Australia, in Cockburn Sound and the Pilbara, with a central state hub to oversee operations and provide good governance.
WAMSI and WABSI engaged widely to provide all relevant stakeholders with the opportunity to shape SEAF.

SEAF is already being applied in Western Australia. In Cockburn Sound, SEAF will deliver regional marine assessments from shared data and analytics, as well as science and analytic products that are regionally specific.
